Cartoon Network vs Nickelodeon reruns, one held up way better
I finally sat down to show my kid some old shows from the 90s. We started with a Nicktoon block, then switched to Cartoon Network the next day. The difference was obvious after two episodes each. Nick's stuff like Rugrats and Hey Arnold felt slower and more talky, but Cartoon Network's Dexter and Johnny Bravo kept the jokes coming fast. My kid laughed at the CN ones and barely looked up during the Nick shows. Anyone else noticed their old favorites don't all age the same way?
Its weird bc I always remembered Ren and Stimpy and Rocko being the "edgy" fast ones from Nick but going back even those have these long dead air gaps where nothing happens. Do you think it comes down to Nick shows being made by former standup and improv people who were used to letting a joke breathe on stage, while CN let their creators just cram in every idea they had? And did your kid react different to the more story heavy Nick stuff or was it just pure boredom across the board? Im honestly wondering if Nick was always more about the characters and CN more about the gags, and kids just want gags.
